Barry Payne – Ophthalmologist
Dr Barry Payne is General Ophthalmologist/Ophthalmic Surgeon with a particular interest in Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Retinal Surgery. He graduated MBBCh (Wits) 2001. He completed his internship at the Pretoria Academic Hospital, followed by a year of community service at Tintswalo Hospital in the Bushbuck Ridge region of Limpopo.
Dr Payne then worked in the United Kingdom for 2 years, predominantly in Accident and Emergency, followed by a short stint in Ophthalmology which convinced him that this was the direction of medicine he would like to pursue. He returned to Johannesburg to work as a Medical Officer and then a Registrar in the Ophthalmology Department of the University of the Witwatersrand.
He was awarded the Elie Dahan Medal for the best Registrar in 2009. He passed the FC Ophth (SA) exams in 2009 and completed his training in 2010. He has consulting/diagnostic rooms at the Oxford Eye Centre in Houghton Estate and performs surgery at the Sandhurst Eye Centre.

Christelle has a strong administrative background in the recruitment, medical and aesthetic environment. Christelle has been a dedicated and vibrant addition since 2014. She is responsible for handling the administration of the practice. Jenny KnoxOphthalmic Assistant
Jenny joined the practice in 2016 after relocating from the Eastern Cape. She had worked in an Ophthalmic Practice for 8 years prior to joining Dr Payne. Jenny will perform a number of the clinical assessments in the practice and is responsible for a number of the tests and scans which may be required.E: [email protected]
